Em virtude do feriado evocativo do 1º de Dezembro de 1640, o Consulado Geral estará encerrado amanhã, reabrindo ao público no dia 2, sexta feira, pelas 8,30 horas.

FADO Património Imaterial

Por decisão da UNESCO de 27 de novembro de 2011, o FADO deixou de ser património exclusivo de Portugal, passando agora a património imaterial de toda a humanidade e a constar da lista dos sítios e monumentos portugueses que já haviam sido designados como património mundial, a saber: Centro Histórico de Angra do Heroísmo (Açores), Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Lisboa), Torre de Belém (Lisboa), Mosteiro da Batalha (Batalha), Convento de Cristo (Tomar), Centro Histórico de Évora (Évora), Mosteiro de Alcobaça (Alcobaça), Paisagem cultural de Sintra (Sintra), Centro Histórico do Porto, Sítios de arte rupestre do Vale do Côa, Floresta Laurissilva da ilha da Madeira, Centro Histórico de Guimarães, Região vinhateira do Alto Douro e Paisagem da cultura da vinha da ilha do Pico (Açores) Conforme artigo publicado na edição de 26.11.2011 do jornal Público, a designação de património imaterial da UNESCO tem por base a proteção do património e das tradições que tornam cada país diferente e único no mundo. Indica igualmente que o património cultural imaterial não se resume apenas aos monumentos e colecções de objectos, mas abrange também as tradições, expressões de vida, conhecimentos e aptidões que constituem a cultura e a identidade de cada país. Características que colocaram o fado entre as sete candidaturas mais recomendadas pelos peritos da UNESCO, que o consideram com um género de grande versatilidade poética e musical, com um forte sentimento de pertença e ligação a Lisboa, podendo contribuir para futuras interacções com outros géneros musicais. Parabéns a todos nós portugueses e muito especialmente às instituições e ao meio artístico que se uniram em torno da candidatura que levou à classificação do Fado como Património Imaterial da Humanidade.

Mario Laginha, em concerto

Aberto à comunidade portuguesa, com admissão grátis, realiza-se no dia 30 de novembro de 2011, pelas 19H30, na College Street United Church (454 College Street, Toronto), um concerto pelo conceituado pianista português Mário Laginha.

Com uma grande criatividade, enorme solidez rítmica e uma imensa riqueza harmónica e melódica, Mário Laginha tem estado ao lado, no palco ou em estúdio, de músicos excecionais, como Wolfgang Muthspiel, Trilok Gurtu, Gilberto Gil, Lenine, Armando Marçal, Ralph Towner, Manu Katché, Dino Saluzzi, Kai Eckhardt, Julian Argüelles, Steve Argüelles, Howard Johnson, Django Bates. A sua sólida formação clássica não se cristalizou num estilo pianístico. Deu-lhe ferramentas para evoluir como intérprete e compositor, desenvolvendo uma identidade própria. É isso que lhe tem permitido escrever para formações tão diversas como a Big Band da Rádio de Hamburgo, a Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, a Orquestra Filarmónica de Hannover, o Remix Ensemble, o Drumming Grupo de Percussão e a Orquestra Nacional do Porto. Compôs também para teatro e cinema. Organizado pela Embaixada de Portugal em Otava, em colaboração com os Consulados Gerais de Portugal em Toronto e Montreal, Mário Laginha realiza igualmente concertos em Montreal e Otava, nos dias 28 e 29 de Novembro, respetivamente.

Moving to the EU? Good advice is now just a few clicks away

Brussels, 18 November 2011 – Where do you apply for a German work permit? Does an Indian citizen need a residence permit to study in Spain? And if you have been exploited for work, who can you call for support? The European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmström, launched the 'EU Immigration Portal', a website with hands-on information for foreign nationals interested in moving to the EU. The site, www.ec.europa.eu/immigration, is also directed at migrants who are already living there and would like to move from one Member State to another. It provides specific information for each category of migrants about migration procedures in all 27 Member States. Commissioner Malmström said: "Many people who want to move to the European Union do not know what possibilities exist, how to apply for a resident permit or the risks related to irregular migration. And migrants who are already in the EU are not always aware of their rights. We need to provide solid, easily accessible information about these sometimes complicated procedures." Background: The EU Immigration Portal is a first point of entry for up-to-date, practical information on EU and national immigration procedures and policies. Workers, researchers, students and those looking to join their families already in the EU can find information adapted to their needs, about the Member State they are interested in moving to. The Portal also links directly to the websites of national authorities dealing with immigration. Users can also find straightforward information about their rights and whether they need a visa to come to the EU. The EU Immigration Portal explains how to enter EU borders legally and describes the risks related to irregular migration, such as trafficking and smuggling. Migrants and potential migrants will also find a vast contact directory of governmental and non-governmental organisations which can help them. Moreover, migrants' support organisations, as well as immigration authorities, employment services and scholars, can also make use of the in-depth information accessible through the website. The EU Immigration Portal is available in English and French at http://ec.europa.eu/immigration/. Arabic and Spanish versions of the site are underway, as are improvements to make it more accessible from different technical platforms. In the development of the EU Immigration portal, the Commission carried out a broad consultation process, including organisations supporting migrants, trade-unions, employers' associations and faith-based groups from the countries of origin, transit and destination. These consultations have taken place in Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Spain and Mali. 20.1 million people in the EU are citizens of third countries, representing around 4% of the total EU population. In 2010, EU Member States and the countries participating in the Schengen cooperation issued over 11 million visas. The estimated number of people trafficked to or within the EU amounts to several hundred thousand every year.

Ministro da Cidadania e Imigração - tomada de posse

Acabado de tomar posse da pasta da Cidadania e Imigração do Governo do Ontário, o Ministro Charles Sousa, em resposta à carta de congratulações que lhe foi enviada pelo Senhor Cônsul-Geral, Dr. Júlio Vilela, agradece e indica ser para si uma honra representar o leque étnico de comunidades residentes no Ontário, em especial a portuguesa, enaltecendo a contribuição destas para a qualidade de vida da Província.
