O Festival Shaw, em Niagara-on-the Lake, Ontário, apresenta de 19 de Julho a 23 de Setembro, a peça teatral MARIA SEVERA, escrita por Jay Turvey e Paul Sportelli, com música e letra também da autoria dos mesmos. Com base na lendária primeira cantadeira do fado nas ruas da Moraria, a peça relata a vida e os romances da Maria Severa. “I AM FLESH AND BLOOD I AM HEART AND MIND AND I AM SONG”.
The legenday MARIA SEVERA was called the mother of fado, the Portuguese music of the street that touched the heart of a people. This musical traces Maria’s life from the slums of Lisbon to her relationship with Count Armondo di Vimioso, the dashing aristocrat and bullfighter, and her transformation into the singer everyone wanted to hear. The world premiere of a romantic musical set in a vivid new world for our audiences to visit, coloured by the haunting and passionate music inspired by the real life figure.
