Popular OMNI Television news anchor Clara Abreu to host new weekly, Portuguese-language current affairs show on OMNI.1, OMNI Alberta and OMNI BC
Ponto de Encontro to explore local and global issues affecting Canada’s diverse Portuguese-language communities.
OMNI Television announced the premiere of Ponto de Encontro, a weekly 30-minute Portuguese-language current affairs show filmed from OMNI Television’s downtown Toronto studios. Hosted by popular OMNI Television news anchor Clara Abreu, Ponto de Encontro delivers the latest news in health, education, arts, economy, politics and literature significant to Portuguese communities across Canada, along with global news from RTP International and RTP Azores. Ponto de Encontro debuts Sunday, March 3 at 11 a .m. ET on OMNI.1, 8 a .m. MT on OMNI Alberta, and 9 a .m. PT on OMNI BC, and will continue to air regularly each Sunday at these times.
“Building on OMNI Television’s legacy of being entrenched in diverse communities throughout Canada, Ponto de Encontro will feature news, cultural issues and events relevant to the Portuguese community,” said Madeline Ziniak, National Vice-President, OMNI Television.
Each episode of Ponto de Encontro will showcase success stories of individuals, who have made significant contributions to the Portuguese community, and will report on topics that are reflective of Canada’s Portuguese-language communities from such countries as Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Mozambique, Macau, Guinea Bissau, India (Goa), Cape Verde, East Timor, San Tome, and Prince.
In addition, audiences can stay up-to-date on the latest Portuguese community events in Ontario through Community Calendar, hosted by Joao Vicente in Portuguese during the daily telenovela from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on OMNI.1.
